Freight & Salvage Coffee House, Berkeley, CA

Architect: Marcy Wong Donn Logan Architects, Berkeley, CA

Salter provided acoustical consulting for this Bay Area cultural icon: a 440-seat, non-profit theater and cafe presenting traditional music from cultures around the world. The new space is housed in a thoroughly remodeled 1920s building. The building was designed to accommodate the increasing audience of the venerable folk music institution, which was founded in 1968. The LEED certified space features a Meyer Sound system and reclaimed wood from a 1950s service station to create optimal acoustics for the intimate setting. The venue includes a public performance space and back-of-house classrooms for musician workshops.
