UC Santa Cruz Digital Arts Research Center, Santa Cruz, CA

Architect: Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, San Francisco, CA

This new facility focuses on emerging media and provides a place for students to collaborate in academic disciplines such as electronics, programming, media production, and web design. The digital arts center includes a presentation/performance space, faculty studios, research studios, group classroom space, and office space. Salter consulted on the acoustical and audiovisual aspects of the building. Acoustical design issues focused on room acoustics in performance and music research spaces, sound isolation between acoustically sensitive spaces, and mechanical noise and vibration mitigation. Audiovisual design included infrastructure for the implementation of systems required for ongoing research and performance configurations.
